How it begins
The word snowbird sounds like something out of a brochure from 1978, all shuffleboard and beige cardigans, and that image has done a lot of damage. The reality is one of the smartest, most quietly luxurious things a man can do with the second half of his life: leave the cold, follow the light, and spend the darkest quarter of the year somewhere the days are long and the mornings are warm.

The last working chapter of every guide is a checklist. Three of its lines, quoted exactly, as verified August 2026:
- Schengen day count calculated if you are heading to Spain or the Canaries on a non European passport, or a long stay visa application started.
- The willingness to say yes to the first invitation you receive, which is the most valuable thing on this list.
- Air conditioning, lift, kitchen, in unit laundry, wifi speed, noise, and walking distance to a market all confirmed explicitly.
Quoted from the edition on sale today. Fares, opening hours, and entry rules move, which is why the book names the authority to confirm each one with and the month it was checked. If one of these has gone out of date, tell us at hello@compasserie.com and the edition gets corrected and reissued.
