Privacy
Using a site for gay men can disclose your orientation. Compasserie is built so that reading it leaves no record with us.
Reading this site
Reading requires no account and no sign in. We set no advertising cookie and run no advertising pixel. There is no Meta pixel, no Google Ads tag, no TikTok pixel, and no session recorder. There is nothing here that can follow you to another website.
Your browser stores three things on your own device: the text size you chose, the theme, and whether you asked for the discreet tab title. They never leave your device and we never see them.
The discreet control
A browser tab shows the title of the page you are reading, and it keeps showing it in your history, your bookmarks, and on your screen if someone is looking at it. The default title of this site says who it is for.
The Discreet button at the top of every page shortens that title to Compasserie and nothing else, on every page, until you turn it off. It changes nothing about the page itself and nothing is sent anywhere. Your browser history will still hold the addresses you visited; clearing those is done in your browser, and we cannot do it for you.
Why we refuse retargeting
Retargeting works, and it is the normal thing for a travel business to do. We do not do it, because gay travel advertising appearing on a shared iPad or a work laptop can out someone. That risk is not ours to take on your behalf.
If you buy a guide
You buy it from Amazon, not from us. Compasserie never takes a payment, never sees a card number, and never learns your name or your address from a purchase. Amazon tells us only how many copies sold, in aggregate, with nothing that identifies a buyer.
Which means there is no purchase record here to leak, to subpoena, or to lose. If you want to know what Amazon holds about you, that is between you and Amazon, under their privacy policy.
If you join the list
We ask for a first name and an email address. Nothing else. We use them to send what you asked for and to tell you when something you were reading stops being true. Every email has a working unsubscribe link. We do not sell, rent, or share the list.
Links to other companies
When you follow a link to a partner, you are on their site under their privacy policy. We do not tell them which page you came from, or that you came from us at all, and we pass them nothing else about you.
Getting your data removed
The only thing we hold is a list membership, if you joined one. Email hello@compasserie.com from the address you subscribed with, or use the unsubscribe link in any email. You are removed within thirty days, and backups purge on their own schedule after that.
