The last working chapter of every guide is a checklist. Three of its lines, quoted exactly, as verified September 2026:
- Museum plan: the Reina Sofia is closed Tuesdays and free for over-65s, the Thyssen is ten euros for over-65s and free Monday afternoons, and the Prado is free for the last two hours every day. Do the arithmetic before buying a combined pass.
- Travel medical insurance, bought at the time of booking. Medicare does not cover you in Spain, so this is not optional at our age; confirm it covers any pre-existing conditions and carry the policy number somewhere reachable without a phone.
- A hotel chosen for fit, central Chueca or a quiet nearby street, with a lift, air conditioning, and an interior room confirmed in writing if you are a light sleeper.
